6th November 2017
Dear parents and carers,
As you know, we had an Ofsted Inspection on 26-27th September. The report has now been finalised and accompanies this letter. The conclusion is that “Since their permanent appointment in February 2016, the two headteachers have faced considerable challenges bringing about improvements to the school. They are successfully overcoming these and share an unwavering commitment to restore the good quality of education. Together with other leaders, they are making appropriate changes to many aspects of provision. Staff understand and willingly commit to the school’s ethos. As a consequence, Petersfield is a well-organised and improving school in which pupils are well cared for and develop confidence in their learning.” As a result, there are many elements of the school which are good. Some areas, and therefore as a consequence the overall judgement, require improvement. These areas had already been prioritised and we continue to address them.
We would like to extend our thanks to Mrs Gwynn, Mrs Penrose and the staff for the positive outcome of the inspection. This is a new and dedicated team who are totally committed to the continued improvement of outcomes for the children.
We would also like to thank parents for their ongoing contribution, understanding and support as the school continues on its path towards being good in all areas.
The report recognises many of the school’s great strengths, particularly in relation to the good start the children make in the Early Years Foundation Stage, keeping the children safe, the caring ethos, good behaviour, relationships and the strong leadership and management of the school. We are very proud that the children at our school are so caring, well behaved and respectful and we congratulate them.
We, as staff and governors, are fully committed to ensuring that the identified areas of school improvement continue to gather pace, to ensure that every child at our school makes the best possible progress in all areas.
If you have any questions then please contact the Headteachers or myself via the school office.
