Hazel
Welcome to Hazel Class. We are a Year 4 class and we have 19 pupils. Our teacher is Miss Swain and our teaching assistants are Mrs Sirett and Mrs Anderson.
Our topic this term is 'Roman Britain'; we will learn about the spread of the Roman Empire, the invasion of Britain and the eventual conquest. We will also look in detail at some aspects of the Romanisation of Britain, such as the building of Roman roads and bath houses. In addition, we will learn about the resistance of Boudicca and will act in role to look at the events of Boudicca's rebellion from different perspectives. We will also investigate Hadrian's Wall, examining how, where and why it was built. We will learn about the different features of the wall and use maps to determine its location. We will find out more about the culture and beliefs of Roman people, and play and design games to consolidate our knowledge about the different Roman gods and goddesses.
Our PE days are Thursday and Friday. We work with Commando Joe on a Thursday. Children should wear their PE kit on these days.
In Hazel Class we are particularly focusing on:
All marking is responded to
Sensible faces (as part of pupil self-assessment)
Lay out each page correctly
Perfecting your punctuation
Correct letter formation and joined handwriting
Spellings copied correctly
Having a can-do attitude
No doodling or scribbling
No rubbing out
DUM TUMS (Date, underline, miss a line, title, underline, miss a line, success criteria)
We all have been involved in a dialogue about the high expectations we have of all pupils. Effective feedback involves a dialogue to identify what has been done well and the next steps to learning. Pupils are regularly given verbal feedback about their work and areas to work on. Where appropriate, we use pink highlighting to identify where we are 'Tickled Pink' that the Success Criteria (expectations set out at the start of the lesson) have been achieved. Green highlighting identifies a next step (Green for Growth). Children are also encouraged to self-edit and correct or improve something using their purple polish pen. For more information, please do ask your child, read our policy on the school website or speak to us.
